Stricture

Strictures are dilated to relieve dysphagia and prevent food impaction. Several types of dilators are available and the type used depends on the severity of the stricture and physician preference. TTS or Thru The Scope Dilators such as Balloons are most common.

Bleeding from tearing of the stricture indicates that a true dilatation has been accomplished. The bleeding normally subsides spontaneously. Repeat dilatation is sometimes necessary due to the chronic reflux and scarring that these patients have.
