Alan V. Safdi, M.D., FACG


 

Dr. Alan V. Safdi performed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University where he graduated in three years and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  He graduated from the University of Cincinnati Medical School.  He was elected to the Honorary Medical Society of AOA in his third year.  His residency was in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, and his Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.  Dr. Alan Safdi is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology.  He currently serves as a director of Gastroenterology at Deaconess Hospital and has been on that hospital’s executive committee.  He has served as a past president, treasurer, and secretary for the Southwest Ohio Digestive Disease Society.

 

Dr. Alan Safdi along with Dr. Michael Safdi was instrumental in starting the Consultants For Clinical Research in Cincinnati.  He has been involved in numerous publications and abstracts that have resulted in a number of articles being published in peer-reviewed journals.  His group has had articles published in the American Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Gastroenterology, the Annals of Internal Medicine, and a variety of other prominent medical journals.  He has been a national speaker and has lectured at the National Digestive Disease Week and American College of Gastroenterology.  Currently, Dr. Alan Safdi is the chairman of the Cincinnati chapter of the medical advisory committee of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

 

His research interests are not only in inflammatory bowel disease including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, but also in regards to peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome, hypertension, diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux disease as well as colon cancer and colonic polyps.  He is currently the principal investigator on a variety of studies.
